Hardfacing allows maintaining the original components’ profile in order to guarantee optimum production conditions and must be performed before an unacceptable increase in energy consumption or decrease in grinding efficiency. Hardfacing may be performed on site or in a workshop, may be fully automated and can be repeated several times or performed on new components in order to reduce wear. Hardfacing also increases component wear resistance by providing an austenitic matrix containing carbides in the componentsurface that is highly resistant to wear. The martensitic matrix underneath the surface is characterized by lower wear resistance.
